Gun control votes and who will throw the 2nd amendment away.

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state; and the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.   (2nd Amendment)

When those words were attached to the Bill of Rights the Founders had a  very specific purpose in mind. It is not a coincidence that it was added second only to the freedom of speech, religion, and ability to assemble peaceably and freely. They understood that without the 2nd Amendment there was really no reason to have the 1st.



Right now on C-SPAN2 they are voting on the amendments that threaten our 2nd Amendment and thus directly our very existence as a free country. Don't believe me? Think about this. If they pass the assault weapon ban, not likely but you never know, do you really believe they will stop there? What happens if they do pass it? Remember it contains a provision to create a federal database of all gun owners. Of course the ATF is already working on that. Look at what they just did to MO. That right there should be enough to make people stand up and scream. Whether you believe I have a need for those guns or not. If they can take away my right to own guns how long until they take away your right to go to the church of your choice.

Right now Cornyn is introducing his amendment that forces a concealed carry reciprocation. Of course Schumer is arguing against it saying that criminals could go from NY to FL and get a concealed carry permit and legally carry it in NY. Never mind that backround checks are still required in FL when you buy a gun, on top of the checks for you to actually get issued a CCW.

Update: Cornyn Amendment fails.

If you don't believe that the 2nd amendment grants you the right from God to own a weapon, what exactly does the phrase "The right of the PEOPLE" mean to you? Or is it that only means actual individuals when it suits you. Let's take a look at the concept that the phrase "of the people" doesn't actually mean of the people.

1st. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

    Under that pretext i guess we no longer have the right to individually assemble and protest. Wait, does that remove unions?

    Well we all know what happens here. None of us are allowed to own guns anymore and the first of our rights is gone.
    " We have come to a place with full gun registration, our streets will be safer our police more effective and the world will follow in our lead" Adolf Hitler - Now he understood the need for a disarmed public.

4th. The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized
    Get rid of this one and I guess we no longer need that pesky warrant thing to get in the way of a good prosecution. Of course the IRS already believes they don't need judges or warrants to read your emails.

9th. The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.
    I realize its not the same exact phrase but it conveys the same thought. Each individual cannot be stripped of one right based on the fact of another.

10th. The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people
    Here we are talking about the fact that the Federal Governments powers were suppose to be extremely limited unless explicitly enumerated to them, other wise the States and the People retained those powers.

I guess we can just throw all that our as well. I mean truly without the 2nd how exactly to do we ensure that the others are never encroached upon?
